GENE WAYNE ROGERS, SR.

Memorial services for Gene Wayne Rogers Sr., 77, of Conroe Texas will be held on Friday June 25, 2014 at 2:00 PM at West Conroe Baptist Church with Dr. Jay Gross officiating.

Gene Wayne Rogers Sr. was born on January 14, 1937 in Conroe Texas and went home on July 22, 2014 in Conroe at the age of 77 where he was greeted by his wife, father, mother and sister. 

Gene had three wonderful children, seven wonderful grandchildren, a loving wife of 54 years and one true friend. Surely he was truly blessed. Gene proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and retired after Twenty-Three years of service where he enlisted before of the end of the Korean Conflict and served through two tours in Vietnam before his retirement in 1974. He served in various locations across the world. Among his distinguished service, he was a Sgt. First Class assigned to the 285 Military Police Battalion, also part of the 52 Criminal Investigation Division, and also member of “Alert Company” strike outfit at Fort Hood, TX. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Rogers, parents Manuel and Alibee Rogers, brother Neil Rogers, and sister Valda Rogers.

Gene is survived by his children: daughter Cindi Sigsbee and husband Scott, son Gene Rogers Jr. and wife Tara, son Chris Rogers and wife Andrea; Grandchildren: Michael, Jordan, Kelsey, Merin, Daylon, Kelly and Zachary; and many other relatives and friends. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a dedicated member of his church and he will be dearly missed.

FRANCES LUDEAN WEST

uneral Services for Frances Ludean West of Conroe, Texas will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be held on the following Monday (July 28, 2014) at 2:00 P.M. at Little Hope Cemetery in Winnsboro, Texas with Pastor Donny Chamberlin officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Conroe Funeral Directors in Conroe, Texas. Mrs. West was born on March 15, 1932 in Blooming Grove, Texas, but was raised in Ennis, Texas.

She passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2014 in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 82. Frances and her late husband, Jack West owned and operated A-Conroe Bail in Conroe for over 15 years together before retiring. After retirement they moved to their ranch in Winnsboro, Texas to live by her family. Frances was an amazing woman who was genuinely kind in every way and had a huge heart. Frances’ house was always filled with laughter among her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyann Wright and her husband, Jack West. Frances is survived by her loving family: Daughters, Jodean McCarty, Jacqueline West and Janan Bell and husband, William Anderson; brother, Wayne Prine and brother-in-law, Dale Ditmore; cousin, Bud Bowers; grandchildren, Johnny, Sherrie, Jerry, Gerald, Kimberly, Jay, Brian, William and Jennifer; 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous other dear relatives and friends also survive. 

JO BRILEY OWEN

Jo Briley Owen, 98, of Conroe, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, ending her long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on January 23, 1916, in Cushing, OK, to the late Jesse Lee and Lula Priscilla Briley.

Jo is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rigby Owen, Sr. She married the love of her life on February 14, 1933, in Tulsa, OK.

She never ceased to amaze family, friends and strangers with her warmth, compassion, energy, humor and zest for life.

Jo's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her children, Sandra and Jesse Powell of Conroe, Steve and Candy Owen of Huntsville, TX, and Rigby Owen, Jr. and his wife Lucinda of Conroe. Also, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Private family services were held in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors on Saturday, July 12, 2014. We will greatly miss our dear sweet mimi. xoxo

Connie Maye Cameron Serrato

Funeral services for Connie Maye Cameron Serrato, 76, of Conroe, Texas will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Houston National Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Ivey officiating. Interment will follow in Houston National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Conroe Funeral Directors. Mrs. Serrato was born on December 7, 1937 in Vanderbilt, Texas and passed away peacefully on July 17, 2014 in Conroe, Texas.

Connie was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. She was a Registered Nurse and worked for TDC for over 15 years before retiring in 2002. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mattie Giddens and husband, Jack Lee Cameron. She is survived by her loving family: beloved husband of 19 years, Eugene Serrato; daughter, Jenny Nelson and husband, Charlie; son, Chris N. Cameron; sisters, Carol Payne, Joye Waldrip and Mary Giddens; grandchildren, Misty Nelson, Mandy Nelson, Clinton Cameron Nelson and wife, Audrey and Alicia Griffin; great grandchildren, Mason Blanton, Caden Patterson and Matilda Maye Patterson; numerous other dear relatives, friends and caretakers also survive.

CLINT LLOYD CARRELL, JR.

Clint Lloyd Carrell, Jr. age 83 of Willis, Texas passed away peacefully at Conroe Regional Hospital on July 16, 2014. He was born in Conroe, Texas on September 25, 1931 to Clint Lloyd and Beaulah Mae Carrell, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Irma Ruth Carrell, his four children, John (Carol) Carrell, Sheila (Ray) Cucancic, Vince (Kathy) Carrell, Lisa Carrell and Life Partner (Rob Feeney); and step children, Cheri (Dale) Amos and his step son James Turner who preceded him in death.

He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Clint worked for Exxon Refinery in Baytown, Texas until he retired in July of 1985. His hobbies in his earlier years included golfing and fishing.

There will not be any services at his request and his ashes will be placed in the Gulf of Mexico where he loved to fish.

BRENDA VIRGINIA MARTIN

Funeral services for Brenda Virginia Martin, 73, of Conroe, Texas will be held on Monday, July14, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with Pastor Brian Fox officiating. The visitation will be held two hours prior to the service beginning at 4:00 P.M. in The Chapel. Brenda was born on January 2, 1941 in Long Beach, California and passed away on July 7, 2014 in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband’s which she dearly loved: John Jacob Humphries, W.L McWorter, and Donald Martin and her mother, Mary Swift and father, Richard Davis.

She leaves a loving family of two sisters: Fredi Simpson and husband, Bruce and son, Kane; and sister, Linda Aufiero and husband, Mike, daughter, Renee and granddaughter, Makayla. She also leaves behind: her daughters, Debra Gillies and husband, Billy, Karen Henry and husband, Allen, Kathy Faust and Vickie Alfaro and her son, Earl Dale Humphries; grandchildren, James Salazar with Catherine Salazar, John Holland with Kristin Holland, Bobbi Jo Bacon, Chasity Ann Rogers, Shayna Humphries, Arielle Henry, Kendall Henry, Christopher Boenisch, Michael Faust, Nicholas Faust, Breana Alfaro, Neamiah Jarrell, Brighton Jarrell, Chris Humphries, John Humphries, Brandon Humphries, Mandy with Mike Billiott;

great grandchildren: Ethan Holland, and new sibling on the way, Alyssah Roberts, Abbigaile Bacon, Caityn Bacon, Angilique Abramovich, Kyle Abramovich, Joseph Abramovich, Rylee Parker, Aarian Parker, Jacob Bellow, Jace Bellow, Payton Henry, Brittany Jones, Dylon Billiott and Devyn Billiott and a great-great grandchild, Brett Grayson Ferguson. She is also survived by a beloved brother-in-law, Earl Humphries, many sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and too many dear friends to begin to list.

Our Mother will be truly missed. She has always loved people and treated them all in love no matter their views, walks in life, or different personalities. She was extremely forgiving and would share anything she had. She was a giver to all. Our mom has taught us how to be a helper of others and looked for the good in others. Her last wish was for her family to be close and to be happy. That's all in this world she really wanted. Who wouldn't miss a Mom like this?

Dorothy Jean Ogle

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Ogle,84, of New Waverly, TX will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Vince Yearwood officiating. Mrs. Ogle was born on February 25, 1930 in Atoka, OK and passed away peacefully on July 15, 2014 in New Waverly, TX.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy Ogle; son, Jimmy Ogle, Jr.; daughter, Jeannie Rezzoffi; granddaughter, Vicki McDaniel; great-great grandson, Dereck Moore; parents, Cecil and Ethel Robinson; brother, Bill Robinson and sisters, Faye Estep and Mary Fugate. REBECCA ANN KUMHER

Rebecca Ann Kumher, age 61, of Conroe, Texas, formerly of Burton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Rebecca, (Becky) leaves behind a daughter, Faydra and son-in-law, Donald Davis of Conroe, and three grandchildren, Ashtyn, Kylee and Beckett, who brought great joy to her life.

Becky enjoyed giving gifts and one of her favorite hobbies was to sew blankets and quilts for all the new babies born to family and friends. Becky loved the Lord and was willing to share her love for Him with all who knew her. She had a caring, generous heart, and was a blessing to many.

A graduate of the class of 1971 of Berkshire High School in Burton, Ohio, Becky maintained relationships with several of her classmates through the years. As an employee of the United States Postal Service for more than 30, she worked at the Conroe Sectional Center Facility from 1981 to 1990 and then at the North Houston Processing and Distribution Center from 1990 to present. Rebecca took great pride in working for the Postal Service and was dedicated to serving their customers.

Rebecca is also survived by her father, William David Kumher of Middlefield, Ohio, sisters, Roberta (Larry) Springer, Diana (Frank) Koller, Janis Kumher, Pamela (Sheldon) Lloyd, brothers David (Faith), Kevin (Cheryl), Greg (Carol) and Bruce (Tammie) Kumher, 21 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Rebecca was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Helen (Vickroy) Kumher and two sisters.

William "Billy" D. Bradford

Memorial Service for William "Billy" D. Bradford, 80, of Spring, TX will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Gateway Baptist Church with Pastor David Riley officiating. Billy was born on December 4, 1933 in Teague, Texas to Fredrick Thomas and Evelyn Bradford and passed away peacefully on July 3, 2014 in Spring, Texas.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth and three sons, Billy Collier, Ken Bradford and Johnny Bradford. Billy is survived by his loving family: children, Rosean Dean, Bubba Bradford and wife, Julia, David Bradford, Cynthia Bradford, Danny Bradford, Mark Bradford and wife, Melissa, Tim Bradford and Lisa Maddox; 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Numerous other dear relatives and friends also survive.

DIANE HENDERSON

Funeral services for Diane Henderson of Shenandoah, Texas will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Ray Hyden officiating. Interment will follow in Klein Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 6:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. Henderson was born on January 17, 1938 in Morgan City, Louisiana to Gilbert and Margurite Estay and passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Shenandoah, Texas. She was 76 years old.

Diane was a talented artist, especially, when it came to “yard art.” She and her husband, John ran a successful art store “Dee’s Cut-Outs” in Old Town Spring for many years before retiring. She was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother who greatly cared for her family. Diane will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Henderson in 2004 and eight siblings. Diane is survived by her loving family: her two sons, John Henderson and Paul Henderson and his wife, Lisa; sisters, Delores Diamond and Gail Friedman; brother, Roland Estay; grandchildren, Courtney Henderson Hulse and her husband, Jeremy, Kirby Henderson, Michael Threadgill, Chrissy McBride, John Henderson and Brandon Henderson; great grandchildren, Kade Hulse and Jacqualyne Hulse. Numerous other dear relatives and caring friends also survive.

Graveside service for Roy Archey Fagan, 78, of Conroe, Texas will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Copeland Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Mike Colston officiating. Roy was born on April 13, 1936 in Houston, Texas and was called home to the Lord on June 25, 2014 in Conroe, Texas. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 61 years, Florence Fagan; sons, Terry, Donnie and Roy; daughters, Peggy, Carolyn and Sandra; 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

NOVIS "BECKY" REBECCA GILL


Becky Gill was born on November 21, 1971 in Yoakum, Texas and left us quietly on June 20, 2014 surrounded by her family and friends to join her Lord and Savior. If you knew Becky she was anything but quiet. She was a fun and adventurous person in life and never let anything stand in her way. Becky was an amazing mother and friend to all who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Dwayne and Dorris Boling; her children: son, Jimmy Johnson; daughter, Michelle Marie and son, Karson Gill; and her grandson, Aden Johnson. Becky also leaves behind her brother, Johnny Gill and his wife, Laura, as well as, many more family that loved her. The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Dwayne and Dorris for all of their love and support during this most difficult time.

Gwen was born on April 18, 1954 in Conroe, Texas and passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2014 in Conroe, Texas. Survivors are her sons, Lorenzo Thomas, Ernest Thomas, and Milo Thomas of Willis, Texas; Four brothers, Issiah Thomas (Brenda), Walter Milo (Kay) of Conroe, John Milo (Charity) of Willis, and James Thomas of El Paso, Texas. Three sisters Zola Mae Hicks and Iona Leatha Harris (Charles) of Conroe, Texas, and Vickie Castle of Oakland, California; Two granddaughters, Amyia Lynch and Taylor Thomas of Conroe, Texas; and special recognition to “Mama” Doris Jean Johnson a mother figure and role model; Caretaker Betty Haynes; Hairstylist Viola Early; Special friends Veronica Sneed, Pamela Hicks, Kathy Cleveland and Mattie Malone. Also surviving are her special nephew, Isaac Thomas; her special niece, Tiffany Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Gwen was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed. She will be dearly remembered as a loving, kind, caring and Godly woman. George was born on October 14, 1934 in Rochester, PA to George and Elizabeth Hendricks. He proudly served his country in the Air Force before beginning a life-long career in the transportation industry. George was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. George was preceded in death by his parents, George, Sr. and Elizabeth Hendricks; his son, Timmy Neal and his grandson, Shane Bellaw. Funeral services for David “Bubba” Wayne Campbell, 50, of Conroe, Texas will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. JD Andrews officiating. A private burial will be held on Monday at Security cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Bubba was born on November 23, 1963 in Conroe, Texas and passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2014 in Conroe. He was a loving father, son and brother who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Bubba was an excellent, dependable handyman and a true “jack of all trades.” He loved the outdoors, especially when he was hunting or fishing with his family and friends. Bubba is survived by his loving family: mother, Dolores Campbell; his children: son, Justin Campbell and fiance’, Vanny Chuon; daughter, Ashley Campbell; sisters, Kathy Carter and husband, David and Theresa Carter; and his dear friend, Andy Williams. Dora Pauline Cooper was born on May 18, 1934 in Conroe, Texas and passed away peacefully

on May 29, 2014 Conroe, Texas with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Freeman Cemetery.The viewing will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. Cooper was a loving kind person who loved her family and was a wonderful homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Cooper “Pug”; Daughter, Vera M. Cooper (Brookshire); Brother, Buford Turner; 2 infants, Buford E. and Shirley Ann Cooper & Her dear parents, Ella and Charles E. Turner.

GENE ROBERT GRAVELY

A Visitation for Gene Robert Gravely of Conroe, Texas will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. in the Green Room at Conroe Funeral Directors. A Memorial in his honor will be held with Dexter Hargrove officiating during that time, as well. Gene will receive military honors from the Conroe VFW 4709 Honor Guard for his commendable service in the Army. He is survived by his loving family: Beloved wife, Sylvia Gravely; Children, Rebecca Flower and husband, Kenneth, Tricia Salazar, Sherry Carnot, Deborah Robinson and Melissa Norman and husband, Michael; Grandchildren, Lauren, Kaylan, Kelsey, Cara, Mary, Shelby and Orion. ALTON SUTTON


A Visitation for Alton Sutton, 91, of Willis, Texas will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Conroe Funeral Directors. Alton was born on May 14, 1922 in Milved, Texas and passed away peacefully on May 13, 2014 at home in Willis. Alton will be laid to rest in Willis Cemetery next to his beloved wife, Audrey. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Alton was preceded in death by his loving wife, Audrey F. Sutton and several siblings. He is survived by his loving family: Children, Bruce Alton Sutton and wife, Earlene Marlene O. Sutton, Stanley Sutton and wife, Mandy and Della Morris and husband, Rex; siblings, Della Edith Sutton, Richard Sutton and Rosa J. Barton and husband, Bennie; grandchildren, John Sutton, Tanya Sutton Moren, Kyle Sutton, Bruce Wayne Sutton, Arnold Pierce, Michael Pierce, Tina Cox, Christopher Sutton, Madison Taylor Rankin. Numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Alton served in the United States Army during World War II. He entered the service and was sent to Camp Bowie, TX for basic training. He was assigned to the 141st Infantry Regiment until he was transferred into 3rd Platoon, B Company of the 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He trained in numerous locations including Louisiana, North and South Carolina, Florida and Massachusetts. While stationed at Fort A.P Hill, Virginia he was injured when a machine gun exploded. Alton shipped out with the 636th on April 2, 1943 and was involved in their training at Oran, Algeria. He continued with the unit receiving credit for five of their campaigns, including Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. After the war had ended and men were transferring home, Alton was transferred into Company G of the 409th Infantry Regiment to fulfill the last of his commitment to the Army. He was discharged on October 17, 1945. He and his fellow men also fought bravely at the infamous Battle of the Bulge. He reached a Corporal rank during his tenor.

WILLIS "JR' BEDFORD HICKMON

Mr. Hickmon was born on August 18, 1952 in Conroe, Texas to Columbus and Geneva (McCoy) Hickmon and passed away peacefully at his home in Conroe on May 3, 2014. He was 61 years old.

Willis, who was affectionately known as “Jr” was born and raised Conroe where he met and married the love of his life, Darlene. They were married on February 18, 1971. Jr. was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who loved his family very much and was greatly adored by them. Jr. loved the outdoors, whether it was working or playing, he especially enjoyed all the good times spent fishing with his brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus and Geneva (McCoy) Hickmon; sisters, Patsy Brooks and Sue Holloway; nephew, Michael Holloway and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pa and Ma McDaniel. Willis is survived by his loving family: wife, Darlene Hickmon; sons, Jay Hickmon, James Wall and wife, Heather and Larry Gene Kelso; grandchildren, Chrissi, Cayli, Kelsey, Kyle Hickmon and J.C. olly King went to be with the Lord Saturday April 19th, 2014. She was born Edna Pauline Walding on September 20, 1926 in Cut & Shoot, Texas. To all her family and friends she was known as Polly. Polly was one of twelve children and was preceded in death by her loving family: Luby Walding Jr., Bernice Allen, JB Walding, Helen Spurlock, Max (Dick) Walding, Clayton Walding, Dorothy Garrett, and Sam (Toby) Walding.

She leaves behind three sisters: Bama Montgomery, Mary Adams, and Janie Johnson. Polly was happily married to Murlon King who also preceded her in death. They leave behind one daughter, Judy King Autry; along with grandson, Jeffrey Howard; granddaughter,Brandi Henley and her husband, Justin Henley and great-grandsons, Colton Howard and Tristan Henley. Polly was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother (Nan). She will most be remembered for her faith and sense of humor. No one could leave her presence without a smile on their face. She will be missed dearly by family and friends. Ray Hyden officiating. D.J. was born on March 22, 1927 in Cordele, Georgia and was one of 13 children. He passed away peacefully on April 4, 2014 in Conroe, Texas. D.J. proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and will receive military honors at his service. He was a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rites. In his early years, D.J. was very active with the San Jacinto Lodge # 106 in Willis, Texas where he met life-long friends. For over 40 years, he and his wife, Lillie operated, D.J.’s Auto Service in Willis. He was a kind, generous, hard-working man who was always willing to help. D.J. was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He will be dearly missed. Mrs. Gregg and her husband, Dale were married on June 15, 1962 in Mineral Wells, Texas and together they raised three beautiful children. She worked for CISD for many years before retiring in 1995. After retirement, Mrs. Gregg worked for Lighthouse Daycare in Willis, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; Paul and Alpha Mae Williams; sisters and brothers, Lillian Williams, Ethel Galloway Williams, Hubert Williams, Otho Williams and Irene Williams; and her dear granddaughter, Katherine Gregg. Usually, this consisted of her delicious homemade preserves that she would cleverly package for the holidays. She canned everything from watermelon to turkey preserves. Jo was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Joyce was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Conroe and had been a longtime member of their WMU Women’s Ministry. She was an excellent cook who loved to share delicious meals with her family and friends. Joyce was a devoted homemaker, loving mother and caring grandmother who left behind her love and sweetness which will stay forever within her family hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Fritz Pearson, Jr, her sister, Larene Helton and her two brothers, Barney Neal and Edmond Neal.

Mrs. Vaudine Alice Birmingham Woodward, age 96, went to be with our Lord on January 16, 2014. Born April 29, 1917 in Dodge, Texas to William Milton Birmingham and Ella Missouri Cooksey Birmingham. Vaudine was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Young Woodward, five sisters and one brother.

Vaudine was raised and educated in Huntsville, TX. She moved to Houston to attend Lillie Jolley School of Nursing. She graduated in 1937, and found her calling as an RN in the nursery at the original Memorial Baptist Hospital in downtown Houston. After taking courses at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans to become a Neonatal Specialist, she became Head Nurse at the downtown Memorial Hospital. Vaudine retired from NW Memorial Hospital in 1983.

After retirement, Vaudine moved to Conroe, joined the United Methodist Church, and traveled the world with her new church friends. Vaudine was also blessed to be able to take many trips with her family. She was an avid fisherman and loved to put her cane pole in any water hole.

Vaudine is survived by her three children, Dana Little and Dr. Tom Little of Conroe, Daniel Woodward and Betty Woodward of Fairview, Texas, and Alice Elliott and Dale Elliott of Houston, with two grandsons, Wayne Little and Tom Little, Jr both of Conroe and four great-grandchildren. Numerous dear nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Mary Tumulty officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service starting at 9:00 A.M.

Jack proudly served his country in the Navy and retired from the Texas City Fire Department after many years of service. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Dorotha Kelley. Mr. Freeland was born on August 4, 1952 in Houston, TX and passed away peacefully on December 27, 2013 in Conroe, TX. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. David was a loving family man and great father. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. PATRICIA ERLE


Patricia Erle of Conroe, TX, aged 93, entered her heavenly home on December 14, 2013 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jim Erle, her parents, Harry and Dorothy Mankin, and her sister, Joan Logan Jones. She is survived by her brothers, Hal Mankin and wife Shirley, Dale Mankin and wife Marie, both of Traverse City, MI. Her children, Tom Erle and wife Midge, Bill Erle, Mary Hine and husband Julian, and John Erle, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pat loved to share the good news of Jesus Christ with whomever the Lord led her way. She wanted everyone to know the love of Jesus that He lived, He died for our sins and He rose again so that all who trust in Him as their Savior may have eternal life. She loved to bake and share her goodies, especially “Granny bread”, with family, friends and neighbors. She conscientiously remembered birthdays and loved to send cards and notes to many friends. Her passion was for people and the Word of God. WILLIS LEWIS SMITH

Funeral services for longtime resident of Conroe, Texas, Willie Lewis Smith, 83, will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Brian Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born on May 9, 1930 in Grapeland, Texas and passed away peacefully on December 19, 2013 at Conroe Healthcare Center.

Willie and Patsy were married on October 27, 1956 in Cleveland, TX and enjoyed 50 years of marriage before Patsy’s passing in 2007. Willie lived and worked in Conroe for over 70 years. He worked for Sparkler Manufacturing Company and the Texas Department of Transportation (Conroe Division) for many years before opening Smith’s Mobil Station on New Year’s Day in 1966. Later after many successful years as a Mobil Station, he changed to Texaco, and finally, ran the location as Smith’s Tire and Lube where he and his two sons, Randy and Richard worked together for over 46 years. Willie loved farming and gardening. He would often sell his delicious watermelon, peas and sweet potatoes at the tire shop for his customers to sample. Willie was preceded in death by the love of his life; wife, Patsy Ann Smith in 2007. He is survived by his loving family: sons, Randy Lewis Smith and Richard Floyd Smith and his wife, Wendy all of Conroe; sister, Coramae McSpeden of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Shane Wells, Shannon Wells, Brandon Wells and Jacob Wells; eight great grandchildren; and his beloved pets, Rusty, Cowboy, Hunter and Dixie. Several cousins and many friends also survive. The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Conroe Healthcare Center and to the Rose of Texas Hospice for their loving care and support during this difficult time.

He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church Grangerland where he was a deacon. David was a devoted man of the Lord. He spent many hours visiting hospitals and nursing homes around the area sharing his ministry. David proudly served his country in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was loving family man who will be greatly missed. David was preceded in death by his father, Ed Friend and his two brothers, Don Friend and Charles Friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shelia Friend; mother, Norma Friend; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Chris Brodie; son and daughter-in-law, James "Jimmy" Friend and Kristin; sister, Joyce Anglin; brother, Robert Friend; sisters-in-law, Pat Jarmin and Carol Friend; grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua and Angelle Brodie; numerous dear relatives and friends also survive. Carole Ann Morgan was born on June 22, 1954 and entered eternal peace on November 27, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. KENNETH WAYNE BARBEE

The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 9:30 A.M. Mr. Barbee was born on May 24, 1949 in Houston, Texas and passed away peacefully on November 22, 2013 in Willis, Texas. Kenneth was married to Deborah (Young) Barbee and for over 35 years they have had a happy, loving marriage. Kenneth was employed by Deer Park ISD for 18 years. After moving to Houston, Kenneth worked for Chaparral Wrecker service for 7 years. Later he moved to Montgomery County and worked for the City of Shenandoah and Conroe Independent School District. Kenneth was a Volunteer Fireman for the Willis Fire Department and the Point Blank Fire Department. Many of his volunteering years were spent with his son, Kenneth by his side. From the first day he joined, Kenneth always went above and beyond in his dedication to the community and to the departments he served. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John Edward Barbee. Kenneth is survived by his loving family: wife of 35 years, Deborah Barbee; children, Crystal Barbee Jackson and husband, Bradley, Kenneth Barbee and wife, Crystal, Kevin Barbee and wife, Megan and Sharon Barbee; brother and sister-in-law, Billy Barbee and Marian; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia Newman and Ed and Rebecca Williamson and Aubrey (Sonny); grandchildren, Michael, Candice, Blake, Carly, Lucy, Emily and Madelyn Isabelle; numerous other dear relatives and friends also survive. DONNA RAE (COSGROVE) CATON

Donna Rae (Cosgrove) Caton of Conroe passed away at the age of 79 at Park Manor in The Woodlands, on November 16, 2013. She was a much beloved wife and mother, and was a wonderful homemaker, gardener and animal lover. Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn C. Matthews, her father John Cosgrove, her sister Tricia Blair and her brother, Timothy Cosgrove. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Robert S. Caton, her daughter Carrie Caton-Simon and husband Channing Simon, and her brother John Cosgrove.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, November 22, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors, 1504 N. Thompson St., Conroe, TX 77301 and the family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. prior to the memorial service. The Rev. Ray Hyden will officiate.

GRACE DARLYNE MCSPADDEN

On Friday, November 15, 2013, heaven gained an angel. Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Grace Darlyne McSpadden, was born to Bill and Grace Bauerkemper on December 24, 1940. Darlyne, and the love of her life, her heart, Buddy McSpadden, lived happily on Lake Conroe. Their marriage was one full of love and was admired by many.

Darlyne was a graduate of Lutheran High South and a lifetime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Adored by her four daughters: Suzanne Salley and Matthew, children, Marissa and Marshal; Melissa Morgan and fiancé, Craig Miller; Kim Parks and Stephen, children, Cody and Tucker; Candace Johnson and Vernon, children, Jake and Grace. Darlyne is also survived by her brother, Billy Bauerkemper and wife JAnn, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 5000 W. Tidwell, Houston, TX, on Saturday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to American Heart Association
